Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Presents Pritish Nandy's Book 'Again'

Lonesong Street and A Stranger Called I author Pritish Nandy presented his new book Again at Mumbai's Crossword Thursday night and longtime fan and friend Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was there to support the journalist and poet.

And he needs it! The author of Again told reporters that if people don't read poetry it's because publishers aren't doing their job! "You cannot judge a reader. It is the writer and publisher's job to persuade the reader to take to reading. If your book is not being read, you better chase or change the publisher," he told PTI.

"I think everyone should read and write poetry. Poetry is living. It is discovering yourself. If you have not written poetry, it means you have not discovered yourself. We need to go beyond the boundaries of academia. Poetry should attempt to discover a connect with the people. It should be fun and should not be just for examination purpose as done in schools," he added.

Ash went on to read excerpts from the book and the evening was an instant success! But success is not something Pritish Nandy looks for, he is happy letting it come to him naturally, if at all. "I do not chase success. I chase excellence in whatever I do, be it writing, making movies or anything else. I have never followed success. Success follows me. If you chase Saraswati, Laxmi comes along," Mr. Nandy told PTI.

And he means it; it's been about 20 years since Pritish Nandy has written poetry so he does takes his time! "It was only because of constant nudging of noted poet Gulzaar that I have taken to poetry again," he said.

So check out our pics of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan presenting Pritish Nandy's new book Again at Mumbai's Crossword Thursday night and share your thoughts; would you listen to Ash read poetry?

Hey! I just planted those...

This morning we woke up to this giant snapping turtle laying eggs in my newly planted hostas.

She looks prehistoric

It's flipping Wild Kingdom around here lately.  Sunday we had a Pileated Woodpecker and 2 deer in the yard as well.

Hot in the City

It's mid 90's this week and our 100 year old house is hot upstairs, but very pleasant in the basement.  We need to replace the 2 extremely ugly light fixtures over the stairway anyway, so I think to save on AC costs installing 2 ceiling fans would help pull up some of that cool air.  Plus the visual impact of two fans in a row would be awesomeness.  So here are my criteria: they have to be hugger (flush mount) since the ceiling is only 8 ft.  They have to be 36in blade diameter since there are 2 of them in a small space and they have to have lights.  Oh and they have to be cool looking.  So far I have found 2 that fit the bill.  Both at Lumens. Both about $400.  So I will have to wait to get them for awhile.  Which do you like?

Picture this one without the drop pole.  Do you have a good source for fans?  Or are they taboo to you?

At my house today

We are looking at annuals at one of my favorite places, the Tonkadale Garden shop.

There were so many choices, I got overwhelmed and left with nothing or I could have spent $500.

Now we are hanging in the shade as it is almost 90 degrees.

Got Wood?

This is sitting in my front yard.  We had it cut down on Saturday.  And before you go all tree-hugger on me, we are planting about 6 to replace it.  This monster is a black walnut and it rained down slimy walnuts that injured cars and people and made it impossible to live in our front yard.  The only thing that would grow underneath it were moles.  (like the animal, creepy little things)

The mister thought we would sell the wood.  Then we thought how cool would it be to tell people that our walnut floor was once a tree standing in our yard?  So now we are researching that option.  Meanwhile, the tree continues to mock me while it prevents the landscape projects from starting still.  I'll show you tree, one day I will be walking all over you.

aish Rai is the one with the sexiest eyes

aishwarya rai

Yet another title for Miss World and Bachchan Bahu, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Beating her Hollywood counterparts, Ash has grabbed the title of the woman with the sexiest eyes and yes, no one can question that. American television channel E!’s Sexiest Body Parts list crowns Ash as the woman with the sexiest eyes leaving behind Hollywood icons like Angelina Jolie, Megan Fox and Scarlett Johansson. Meanwhile, Irish actor Jonathan Rhys-Myers (of Bend It Like Beckham fame) won best male eyes award

WHEN BEAUTY COMBINES WITH BRAIN

Aishwarya Rai, usually dubbed as "The most beautiful woman in the world" appeared on a recent Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah, known to many as "the most powerful women in the world" was well handled by Aish.

When asked why people do not see sex in her movies; not even a kiss, Aishwarya replied:

"I come from the land of the Kama Sutra. So we obviously do have a normal, healthy sex life. [Kissing] is a more private expression of emotions. So I guess art imitates life and that kind of comes across in our cinema as well."

On another answer she said:

"Back home, you're a loser if you say, 'Mom, I'm out of here'. In India it's more about the family, about living together, about remaining connected, and that's probably the most beautiful special thing about it."

That makes Aishwarya even more beautiful. In her words:

Aishwarya Rai in sari stuns everyone at Cannes

After a long time, the Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was seen in a traditional Indian outfit at the 63 annual Cannes Film Festival.

Aishwariya Rai mesmerised everyone at the red carpet as she walked in Indian outfit with her husband Abhishek Bachchan during the premiere of 'Outrage'.

Besides Abhishek, Aishwarya was also accompanied by her mother Vrinda Rai and team of 'Raavan'.

Aish's outfit switch
From Armani, Elie Saab and Gucci designer outfits, Aish made a switch over to Indian outfit designed by Sabyasachi Mukherjee at the sixth day of Cannes Film Festival, the most prestigious and world's oldest film festival.

Aishwarya Rai was usually seen in western outfits more due to the rules of her brand L'Oreal. As per the rules, she must present herself in western outfit but this time she also showed her Indian side.

The sari was studded with stone and had a low neck blouse and on that she wore less of jewelry.

"The look was glamourised and it brought back memories of Ash in the film Guru. I also loved the make-up,” Ritu Kumar told NDTV.

On May 23, 2002, Aishwariya Rai was seen in a sari at Cannes Film Festival first at the premiere of 'Devdas' that fascinated everyone at the red carpet.

But ever since the 2003 outfit disaster, when her green sari and chappals at the 'Dogville' premiere were criticized even by the unfashionable, the brand L'Oreal made sure that she wears designer outfits.

Deepika Padukone still in race
Besides Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone also preferred Indian wear. She wore an off-white sari designed by Rohit Bal. She said that she finds sari very Indian and sensuous.

As per Oneindia, Deepika said, “There’s so much to Cannes besides the festival. In fact, the first time when I came to Cannes in 2002 I was here not for the Festival but as a tourist.

"I remember I had stood outside the venue of the Cannes film festival and taken pictures. I had promised myself that next time I’d be back as part of the Festival…and here I am.”

But Now I Am

I wasn't really a soccer/football fan before but....

And I enjoyed this article in Vanity Fair.  Here is an excerpt:

In 38 days, it begins. The World Cup captivates more people around the globe than any other event, sporting or otherwise. Every four years, in pubs and corporate boardrooms, thatched huts and flophouses, fans of “the Beautiful Game” gather around televisions and transistor radios—and now, for the deep of pocket, iPhones and 3-D flat screens—to cheer for their heroes. They watch and listen by the billions, holding their breath at every corner kick, falling to their knees or leaping for joy at every goal scored. That this year’s tournament is in South Africa, where apartheid was the law of the land until 1994, only adds to the heightened sense of celebration—this is about a whole lot more than just soccer.

Another project finished

Since the mister has been out of work he has kept himself busy with many projects around the house and yard,  like this, this, and my kitchen where he replaced the sink, countertops, faucet, and put in a tile backsplash which I will post when he grouts it.  He likes to get a project 90% done and then leave it for awhile.  I don't know why, but I try not to complain since he is so handy. And handsome.

Last summer he built this "tree house".  This spring he finished the sandbox underneath.  I would love to add one more detail.

Sunbrella® Awning Stripe Outdoor Drape, 50 x 84"

Wouldn't it look awesome to use Sunbrella drapes to enclose the sandbox, and have them tied around the
post like these from Pottery Barn? But Since I don't yet have drapes in my living room it would be a little
silly to drop $800 to perfect the tree house.

She doesn't really care.

Aishwarya Rai

Gorgeous Aishwarya Rai in strap less dress

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai

Aishwarya Rai tries them all, pinks, reds, browns and nudes and looks good in any shade she wears.

Kiss-Meter: She famously proclaimed “we don’t kiss in hindi films” in her interviews to the international media but eventually locked lips with ‘good friend’ Vivek Oberoi in ‘ Kyun! Ho
Gaya Na’, Prosenjit Chaterjee in ‘ Chokher Bali ‘, Sanjay Dutt in ‘ Shabd ’ and most sensuously with Hrithik Roshan in ‘ Dhoom 2

The End of Innocence

Whoa. I don't know if I should feel ashamed, disgusted, or sorry for envying their sex appeal. The proper response would probably be a mix of the three. Mainly I just feel jealous. I've never looked that sexy in my life.
If you are too disturbed to watch the whole routine just skip to the last 30 seconds. It's the best/worst part.

Do these kids even have parents?  Or just a dance teacher and a pimp?

Gifts for the Grad

I have many grads in my life this year and my favorite place to get them gifts is a local shop called Patina.  Walking into the store is a feast for the eyes, as they have a little of everything all beautifully styled and arranged in color themes.  Here are a few picks I though looked good, and you can order them online if you are not near the TC metro area.

This book looks inspiring,  How Many People Does it Take to Make a Difference?

Who doesn't need one of these?

Peace pillow.  They all go through this phase.

I love office supplies.  They will too.

He's cute.  Wrap him up with a gift card or a check.
